If you are interested in becoming an I Am Abel Foundation Mentee Leader and Auxiliary Board Member, you must declare your candidacy by Thursday, October 15, 2020 6pm Central, by submitting all required materials to Urban_Bridges@iamabel.org The candidates will present their agenda in a 1 minute pitch at Saturday Morning Professor, Saturday, October 17, 2020 between Noon - 12:30pm.
There will be a zoom meeting at 6:30pm on Thursday, October 15th, 2020 for those who intend to run so that we can answer any questions and give further instructions. The link will be distributed to those who plan to run for office.
There will be officers selected for both the Advanced Curriculum Mentees (2016-2019) as well as the 2020 Mentees. This is your opportunity to serve our community as we look to create equity, inclusion and a real space for those underrepresented in medicine. While this level of leadership is valuable to you as you build your career in medicine, it's more important that you understand why these leadership opportunities were created. You are being called upon to serve and to truly make a difference. We will select our student leaders on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at our Saturday Morning Professor session. IAAF President of the Board of Directors reserves the right to approve and/or accept final selections.
We will choose 2-3 officers for both cohorts. The offices are:

IAAF Membership
You must submit the following by Thursday, October 15, 2020
Letter of Intent describing why you would like to serve in this capacity and what you hope to accomplish as a Mentee leader with I Am Abel Foundation keeping in mind our mission and goals.

The student's campaign goals will be posted on the I Am Abel Foundation Website the week of 10/21/2020 Responsibilities
Create 1-2 sustainable initiatives, events or projects to help develop the middle school pipeline for underrepresented communities in Chicago (Englewood and Southside preferred)
Develop or support a humanitarian service initiative or project
Enhance, coordinate and implement improved communications within the mentee community
Plan welcome activities for new mentees entering advanced curriculum or joining I Am Abel foundation for the first time in 2021
Attend I Am Abel Foundation (IAAF) Board Meetings an an Auxiliary Board Member twice annually (February and August)
Have strategic planning meetings with your team to plan the year's objectives
The leaders of this new student lead organization are expected to help the foundation create a path for underserved and underrepresented students as they navigate their careers into medicine. We are hoping that the next great advocate and leader is amongst our ranks.
