Students from Affirmative Advising Program

Academic Advising

Our academic advising is affirmational. We are committed to helping students focus on what they can do and how to do it. Too often, students hear what is not possible—our approach is different.

We work closely with each student to identify their unique needs, challenges, and barriers, and develop a personalized, realistic plan for success.

Students meet with an academic advisor twice per year, with Friday drop-in hours available for additional support. Academic advising is available to current mentees—if you are interested, please apply to the Urban Bridges Medical Mentoring Program.

if you have any questions please contact

Advising sessions include:

  • GPA review and academic progress tracking

  • Course planning for upcoming semesters

  • Referrals for mental health, tutoring, and accommodations

  • Review of medical school–relevant experiences

  • Guidance on building clinical, research, and volunteer experiences

  • Strategies for balancing academics and extracurriculars

We also guide students through key decisions, including post-bacc, MBS/SMP, and other pathways, to help them move closer to becoming physicians. Students preparing for the MCAT receive access to our MCAT Resource Center followed by the academic advisor meeting,  including individualized study plans and strategy coaching to reach their target score.

Additional requested support includes personal statement review, application editing, and interview preparation.

From your first step in pre-med to medical school acceptance, we are here to support you every step of the way.
